Located just 6 km south of Perpignan, Lake Villeneuve-de-la-Raho has become one of the most popular outdoor attractions in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Born from an irrigation project in the 1980s, it quickly established itself as a must-see leisure area, offering an exceptional natural setting between plains, vineyards, and panoramic views of the Canigó and the Albères mountains.
An artificial lake in the heart of Roussillon
Created to support local agriculture and secure water supplies, Lake Raho is an artificial body of water measuring nearly 2.3 km², fed primarily by a canal derived from the Tet River. Its management allows for the storage of up to 22 million m³ of water, while also providing a strategic reserve in the event of drought and a support point for firefighting.
A leisure space for everyone
The site consists of three separate reservoirs:
The tourist reservoir, with a supervised beach in summer, nautical base, restaurants and equipment rental (pedal boats, kayaks, paddleboards).
The large reservoir, ideal for fishing (carp, pike, trout), jogging or hiking (6.5 km loop around the body of water).
The 14-hectare ecological reserve, protected and closed to fishing and tourist activities, where a rich migratory birdlife and numerous turtles can be observed.
There is no shortage of activities: swimming, walking or cycling, fitness trail, fitness area, pétanque, picnics, rowing, windsurfing, paddleboarding... The site also hosts numerous sporting and festive events throughout the year (triathlons, fishing competitions, Saint-Jean bonfires, Nature Festival)
